I am a man of routine and my daily routine, unless disrupted, concludes with mint tea and dark chocolate. I was thus thrilled to receive Chocolate Mint (2.0) from the fine folks at Greenhill Organic to complement my nightly ritual. Chocolate Mint is a pretty and innocent looking bud, long, verdant, sticky and covered in sparkled dusting. The bud is wonderfully fragrant with classical earthy herbal and pine aromas which do bring mint and chocolate to mind. Grinding the bud brings out a slight fruity note and a dry pull reveals a “mouth smell” of herbs, pine and slight citrus. Very pleasant and enjoyable. The flavor starts off with a sweet earthy herbal taste matching the initial notes of the aroma. But then the bud get slightly and then more so bitter, never unpleasant or untoward, but it does depart from the aroma becoming more of a high quality herbal bud with less of the remarkable characteristics of the aroma.
The high is strong and debilitating. Close to the end of my joint I felt my brain come to a full slowdown—I decided to jot down as many notes as possible before surrendering my body and mind to the powerful high—but this rush to write led to a bit of anxiety. Once I finished writing, I relaxed a bit and the anxiety dissipated. I drank my tea and ate my chocolate all the time fighting to stay awake but eventually the high got the best of me and I was lying on my back snoring on my couch.
Chocolate Mint is a strong bud. I recommend it for those experienced consumers who know they want to knock themselves out. I really loved the aromas but wish these came out a bit more in the flavor—perhaps next time I will vape the bud to capture those terps which may have gone up in smoke. I definitely want to give this bud another try.
