Grower: Humble Gardens
Rating: 4.4
Iโm guessing that Humble Gardens does not want Autumn Sunset reviewed. The bud is not available for sale. It is still under development and subject to growing adjustmentsโand has only been shared with their friends (I am honored to be counted within that circle). But, I am taking the liberty to document the process of development, of tasting and testing, and also the enjoyment of being part of that process. Autumn Sunset, small super dusted yellow green buds, opens with a creamy, tropical candy sweet and slightly tart essence. Once ground the bud releases a much stronger sweet and tart vanilla aroma, with just a hint of fruit, but with head turning notes of caramel and coffee. Once combusted the flavor matches the caramel, vanilla coffee aroma with subtle floral and fruit tastesโsomething akin to a seasonal Starbucks drink. The flavor, however, is not maintained and drifts into a stronger and more bitter flavor before tempering into a savory and interesting Vietnamese herbal finish with an added bit of nutmeg.
Autumn Sunset start off with a buzzy feeling in the head, a bit of energy but not the engagement or creativity I associate with functional cultivars. Indeed, as I was jotting down my notes I felt a bit anxiety and retreated to my couch with a cup of mint tea, almond dark chocolate and cheerios. Once on my couch I chilled out and relaxed (I finished my cheerios and chocolateโbut not my tea), slipped into a number of YouTube videos and slowly drifted off to a gentle sleep. I probably should have gone directly from toking to relaxing in hindsight.
Humble Gardens is not releasing their Autumn Sunsetโbut if they were I would have recommended it to all consumers with the caveat that novice consumers come to it in moderation, as it is a bit strong. I am super excited to see what the next iteration of this bud looks like and report my findings then!
