The National Tobacco Products Control Committee intends to draft legislation prohibiting the importation and sale of e-cigarettes and cigarettes containing cannabis and hemp substances.
Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told the Associated Press today, July 22nd, that the committee had followed Prime Minister Prayut Chan-order O’Cha’s to draft ministerial regulations to cover the ban on tobacco manufacturers and importers selling cannabis, hemp, CBD, and THC cigarettes in Thailand.
“This aims to control inappropriate marijuana use, which is also consistent with the medical marijuana policy, which does not support recreational use.” The Public Health Ministry’s intention is not to abuse the plants for recreational purposes, but only for medical and health purposes. Previously, the Bhumjaithai Party presented two similar drafts in parliament, which are currently being discussed by the commissioner.”
When asked if the prohibition on marijuana in cigarettes would also apply to e-cigarettes, the Minister stated that it is already prohibited because the sale of e-cigarettes is prohibited in the Kingdom.
