Surprisingly, prior to this bud I had never tried Gary Payton before. Iโ€™ve tried a few crosses, and enjoyed most of them, but Gary Payton himself has been elusive. I was psyched and curious to finally crack open the packaging and roll a joint out of this verdant and sticky bud. The aroma out of the packaging had a yeasty fermentation with a sour coffee citrus smellโ€”interesting and a bit confusing as I tried to pin point what I was experiencing. The โ€œmouth smellโ€ from the dry pull was more definitive with a clear lemon pepper. That lemon pepper comes through strongly in the flavor of the bud, but so do the fermented yeast fumes, and the developed tastes of peach iced tea and diesel, with a final herbal conclusion. Curious aromas and flavors which I recognizeโ€”but usually find do not experience in such isolation.

The high is an experience unto itself. The bud starts off quite trippy with the head thrown for a loop and perception enhanced and altered. The world was moving in ways I do not notice and at a speed which seemed faster than usual (in particular the clouds above my balcony seemed to zip right by me). I was less sure footed than usual and lacked confidence in my ability to move from one point to another successfully. But after a good half hour (I think, or so) the high mellowed out and became more amusing, entertaining, life became humorous and I was motivated to engage and joke around with anyone who would give me attention (this ended up being the HighThailand line groupโ€”but my own brothers in weed had little patience for me). The high ended with great euphoria, a deep chill relaxed feeling and a continuation of general silliness.

I highly recommend Gary Payton to experienced consumers. The flavors and aromas are curious and fine from an educational perspective, but they donโ€™t necessarily appeal to me in their existing combination. However, the high is unique with twists, turns and entertainment that are hard to find in other highs. A high which is by far too complicated for a novice consumer to digestโ€”but is just all too excellent for a true lover of cannabis to pass.
